Recent reports from popular Apple-fan and news site 9to5Mac
suggest that iOS 7 will have a complete design overhaul that will feature a “flatter”
design complemented by a black and white user interface. The new design is said
to veer away from the skeuomorphic design
principle that previous versions of the operating system have sported in the
past.
This means that the usual synthetic textures, glossy
surfaces and deep shadows will take a leave with iOS7. Instead, the new
operating system will have a flatter and cleaner look (which sounds a lot like
Windows Phone, don’t you think?). Aside from the cosmetic makeover, reports say
that apps and major parts of the UI will also be changed.
For starters, the lockscreen will reportedly lose the glossy
image and clock and will be replaced by a black screen that has improved gesture
controls. The security code pad will also feature a new look through round,
black keys with white texts. Flickr and Vimeo integration might also show up in
iOS7.

Panoramic wallpapers are also said to be debuting in iOS7.
Moreover, apps such as Notes, Game Centre, Mail, Messages, Weather, iTunes,
iBook and Newstands app will get a uniform look and will sport a white
background. Lastly, notifications in
iOS7 will do away with the linen texture and will be replaced by a black
background with white texts. Widgets and toggles may also be added to
notifications which are features that are already found in newer version of
Android or in jailbroken iOS devices.
All these changes are said to be part of Jonathan Ive’s vision
to deliver an operating system that reflects the physical form of the iPhone.
This is also probably one of the biggest changes that will come to iOS in terms
of design ever since its launch along with the original iPhone. Nevertheless,
it’s only a matter of time before we see these updates as Apple is set to
unveil iOS7 at WWDC coming in a couple of weeks.
