Samsung has finally unveiled the long rumoured rugged
version of the company’s current flagship device – the Galaxy S4 Active on the
company’s mobile press website yesterday. Just like the original Galaxy S4
(model i9505), the Galaxy S4 active features a 1.9GHz quad-core processor, 2GB
of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card
slot.
The Galaxy S4 has qualified protection against dust and
water thanks to its IP67 certification, which means the fully sealed design of
the phone, will keep out dust particles and protect the phone against water
damage up to 30 minutes at a depth of one meter. The phone also features a
water-resistant earphone jack that allows users to use earphone even in more adventurous
situations.
The phone sports an 8MP camera which features an “Aqua Mode”
that increases the visual quality and clarity for enhanced underwater images and
video. The Galaxy S4 boasts the same 5.0-inch camera with the same resolution
and pixel density as the original Galaxy S4 but uses LCD technology instead of
AMOLED.
The Galaxy S4 Active also hosts a number of Samsung apps including
S Travel, S Translator, several of the original Galaxy S4’s camera enhancements
including Drama Shot, Sound & Shot and Story Album, Group Play, Samsung
Smart Pause, Air View, Air Gesture, S Health and WatchON IR apps.
There’s no information on the pricing of the Galaxy S4
active yet, but consumers should expect the arrival of this phone by Q3 2013. Samsung
will also offer the phone in different colour options including Urban Grey,
Dive Blue and Orange Flare.
