Sony today announced a new mid-range Android smartphone in
the name of the Xperia M. The Xperia M features a 4.0-inch TFT display with
FWVGA resolution and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Plus chipset that
sports a 1GHz dual-core Krait processor, Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM.
There’s a 5MP snapper at the back of the device that
utilizes an Exmor RS sensor and is capable of capturing 720p videos. There’s
also a 0.3MP front-facing camera for video calls and 4GB of storage which is
expandable via a microSD card.
In terms of connectivity, the Xperia M packs dual-ban Wi-Fi,
3G with HSPA, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and an FM radio. The phone’s NFC also provides
users with what Sony calls as magical
one-touch functions which is basically apps that allow the device to share
content to other NFC-enabled devices.
The phone will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with a custom
skin on top and will be available in four colour options, namely: black, white,
purple and lime. There will also be a dual-SIM version of the phone which will
have the same specs albeit fewer colour options and of course the extra SIM
slot.
There’s no further information about the phones,
specifically with pricing but both models are scheduled to be available by Q3
2013.
