Back in February, HP released its first tablet since it
dropped the WebOS platform and consequently the devices that it powers. And
after testing the waters with the Slate 7 tablet, HP appears to think that it’s
now safe to get more slates into the market as it announced five new tablets
this week.
The first device from the group is the HP Slate 8 Pro. The
device comes equipped with a 7.98-inch display that offers 4:3 aspect ratio and
a resolution of 1600x1200 pixels. It runs on Android 4.2 on a 1.8GHz Nvidia
Tegra 4 chip. There’s also 2GB worth of RAM and a 5000+ mAh battery.
HP also updated its original Android tablet by going HD. With
the exception of the screen size, the 7-inch Slate 7 and the 10-inch Slate 10
are basically identical. Both devices offer 1280x800 IPS displays, a nine-hour
battery, a dual-core processor, Beats Audio technology and optional 4G
connectivity.
For those looking for an Android powerhouse, HP is also
including the HP Slate 7 Extreme. The tablet runs on Android 4.2 on a Nvidia
Tegra 4 chip. It also comes with a stylus with palm rejection. There’s also 1GB
of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (expandable via a microSD card slot) and a 5MP
rear camera.
Windows users are also included in HP’s target market. For
starters, there’s the Omni 10 – a 10-inch tablet powered by Intel’s latest Bay
Trail chip and Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system. It has 64GB of on-board
storage as well as 2GB of RAM. There’s also a micro-HDMI port and an 8MP camera
at the back.
Lastly, HP is offering a convertible with the Pavilion 11
X2. This tablet-convertible replaces the Envy X2 hybrid from last year and just
like the Omni 10 packs the latest Intel Bay Trail chips. There’s 4GB of RAM and
up to 128GB of flash memory. The screen of the Pavilion 11 X2 is an 11-inch IPS
display with a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. It also comes with a keyboard
dock that has a built-in battery.
