CES 2014: Samsung Adds Pro Branding to its Tab and Note Tablets

Most of the time, a Pro branding on consumer electronics device would usually denote some sort of emphasis on productivity apps and functionality. And in the realm of tablets, productivity and business related features are associated with the Windows operating system as Microsoft’s platform has long been the home of a lot of business and office apps.

But it looks like Samsung is planning to change all that by pushing for Android-powered tablets that are designed to replace the traditional Windows-powered tablet and laptops.

This is especially true when it comes to the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2. The tablet, as the name implies features a 12.2-inch display with WQXGA resolution that supports up to 10-finger input as well as the S Pen stylus. It also features a new multi-windows feature that allows the device to run 4 apps simultaneously. And the Note Pro handles this with ease thanks to its very capable internals.

The tablet is powered either by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip or an Exynos Octa 5 chipset coupled with 3GB of RAM and Android 4.4 KitKat. The tablet can also provide users with remote access to their laptops and PCs via its RemotePC functionality. Samsung has also equipped the Note Pro with various productivity apps including Dropbox, Bitcasa, HAncom Offline and Evernote.

In the imaging department, the Note Pro will be equipped with an 8MP camera that is capable of capturing full HD videos at 60 frames per second. Images and other forms of media can be stored on its built-in 32GB or 64GB storage, which can further be expanded using a microSD card.

Aside from the Note Pro, Samsung has also added three new Pro models to its Galaxy Tab range. Heading the trio is a 12.2-inch tablet that packs almost identical specs and features as the Note 12.2 with the exception of the S Pen Stylus input.

The other two tablets are the Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 and the Tab Pro 8.4. Both models share similar internals and differ mainly in screen size as well as battery units. The two tablets are again powered either by a Snapdragon or Exynos chip, has 2GB of RAM, a screen resolution of 2560x1600 pixels and 16GB/32GB of built-in storage (expandable).

Obviously, the Tab Pro 10.1 is bigger than the 8.4 in terms of screen size. As for the battery, the bigger 10.1 tablet packs an 8220mAh battery while the Tab Pro 8.4 packs a battery rated at 4800mAh. On the other hand, the Tab Pro 12.2 as well as the Note Pro 12.2 gets a 9500mAh unit.
