Apple has been working really hard these past couple of
months to strengthen the iPad’s credibility as a portable productivity machine,
especially when popular productivity apps such as Microsoft’s
Office and Adobe’s
Lightroom are now available for
users to download and install. And if we are to believe recent rumours, Apple might be
raising the productivity bar a notch higher with iOS 8.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, the next major update to
Apple’s mobile operating system will allow the iPad to split the screen and run
two applications simultaneously much like how Microsoft’s Surface
tablets and Samsung’s Galaxy
Tab Pro do it.
The report also adds that the company is working on tools
that will allow developers to let the apps they built to communicate with other
apps while they are running side-by-side.
Unfortunately, the split screen feature will only be
available on iPad models in landscape mode (so better luck next time iPad mini).
And since the company’s annual developer conference – WWDC is due in just a few
weeks, we’re expecting to get more details there.
