Uber is now expanding its on-demand driver service to greater
heights as the American startup recently announced two new options for
commuters who have bigger demands and farther destinations.
For those who aren’t aware of what Uber is, the firm (which was
founded back in 2009) made an app that connects passengers with drivers of
vehicles for hire and ridesharing services. Think of it as a taxi-hailing app
but instead of fetching you a taxi, it provides users with a private car for
their use (much like a chauffeur service).
This week, Uber introduced two new services that should give
more options to commuters. On one hand, is UberXL which caters to medium-sized
commuters and uses SUVs to transport commuters instead of a sedan. The service
is already available in Singapore and Chicago and will soon be available in San
Francisco (and probably other cities worldwide).
Not to be confused with the already existing UberSUV that
uses TCP-licensed drivers and uses luxury SUVs, UberXL is meant just for bigger
groups and uses ordinary SUVs which allow the service to be more affordable
than UberSUV.
Now if you’ve got mounds of cash to spend and you’re
planning to attend the Cannes film festival in France this month, Uber is also
offering UberJet.
The service will be available between May 12 and May 18 for
anyone who wants to go to France and witness the film festival. The service
will be composed of three stages: two car rides to and from the airport and of
course a jet (operated by Goodwill Airlines).
The service will cost around $8900 to book and can be split
among four passengers.
