Popular Chinese electronics manufacturer Xiaomi has recently
released its first tablet offering in China last week – the Mi Pad. And just
like in the past, the company has sticked to its formula of using
Apple-inspired designs coupled with the convenience and flexibility of Android.
The Mi Pad packs a Tegra K1 chip that comes with a 2.2GHz “4+1 core” CPU and a 192-core PC-class
Kepler GPU. There’s also 2GB of RAM and 16GB or 64GB of on-board storage that
can be expanded via a microSD card up to 128GB.
The tablet’s display stands at 7.9 inches with a resolution
of 2048 x 1536 pixels (which roughly equates to a pixel density of 326ppi and a
4:3 aspect ratio). The slate also has a 6700mAh battery, stereo speakers, an
8MP camera at the back and a 5MP at the front.
There’s no 4G or 3G connectivity on board, but the typical
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios are present. The Xiaomi Mi Pad will be available in
China next month for $240 for the 16GB version and $270 for the 64GB variant.
There’s no word yet on international availability, but we’re
hoping that Xiaomi will consider bringing the Mi Pad outside of China.
