HTC and Microsoft go a long way back. In fact, HTC’s first
smartphones were powered by Microsoft Windows Mobile OS, and there was also a
time when HTC had the most Windows Phone devices in the market. But ever since
Nokia adopted the Windows Phone platform, HTC took a back seat and suspended
the development of any Windows Phone device after the HTC 8X from 2012.
This week, the Taiwanese manufacturer has finally unveiled
the Windows Phone version of its flagship smartphone – the One (M8). The device
is coming to the US via Verizon.
The phone is identical to its Android counterpart when it
comes to specs and hardware including a 5-inch Full HD display, HTC BoomSound
speakers, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable
storage. It also has the same Duo camera setup that uses a 4MP UltraPixel
camera at the back and a 5MP front-facing snapper.
The Windows Phone version of the One M8 will also come with Microsoft’s digital assistant Cortana as well as HTC’s news and social network aggregator app – BlinkFeed. As always, there’s no word if HTC will offer the phone outside the US, but hopefully they will.
